One of the most common questions I get daily is “what’s the best exercise for XYZ muscle?”

And my answer is always the same…

There is no best.

The best doesn’t exist without a specifically defined context.

It’s like asking “What’s the best food for muscle growth?” as if there could be one food that was best for everyone.

The “best” is specific to a person’s goals, limitations, training gaps, individual anatomy, injury or lack thereof, history of enjoyment, and many other variables.

To define a single “best” is to limit our options arbitrarily. What is best for you may not even be an option for the person training with you.

So, rather than ask “What is the best?”, instead ask “What options make the most sense based on my goals and the limitations I have?”
